GREYSTONE PICTURES, now this building was just one of the many buildings on site. I only had a few seconds to grab the pictures, very scary place, this building was abandoned back then and I'm 99.9% sure they tore it down.

Yeah, that's the place all right. My folks live five minutes away, but I never explored there.

Thanks for posting.

Haha, I never went in I wish I did but the security there was very tight, they did all types of bizarre things to patients there, ranging from shock treatment (was more like torture), solitary confinement, and yes of course the removal of brain parts in an attempt to treat mental disorders! On a website out there they explored the building extensively so try to google it. They show the old morgues, operating rooms, etc.
The surrounding property is nice though, geese and deer are everywhere.

Greystone Hospital has over 200 years of history! It was "lovingly" known for some time as a 'funny farm'!
Originally intended for about 600 patients, it soon was overcrowded. A new drug, Thorazine, was found effective in treatment of the mentally ill.. allowing their housing in less secure institutions.
Many of the buildings went to distress, and the State of NJ eventually assumed most of the operations. It also was a state-run hospital for people who were incapacitated other than mental illness.. such as from stroke or other Medicaid-honored disabilities.
One of the better-known buildings was the Kirkbride, noted in this WIKI link. There were some unsavory news stories of mistreatment or other foul acts on the property. Reportedly, some evil spirits (ghosts) haunt the premises!

Nice! Thanks for the reply. What were they tearing down then about 5 years ago? The old housing units? I hope they do preserve the site. It's historic and a lot can be learned!

Many of the buildings were made of a local gray stone, hence the name "Greystone". But due to lack of maintenance and repair, the wooden roofs of many of those buildings leaked.. allowing rain to infiltrate the walls. And in Winter this caused fissures and cracks. Some structures were deemed beyond repair. A few historic ones were rebuilt. Video clip: Curry building demolition..

That hospital might contribute a very great help for medical needs of the people. Anyway, it might be so scary in a night time. I just wish to get there with my friends.SEO Services
